So, I have this dashboard widget called Clockish

(Bear with me for a minute, it’ll be relevant. Sort of.)

If you checked out that link, you’d see that Clockish is a kind of vague clock type thing. Hence the name, obviously. If I remember correctly, it was one of the first things I downloaded when I switched to a Mac six and a half years ago, because I found the idea of a vague clock amusing.

Anyway…

Clockish also has a countdown feature I use every now and then, mostly when I’m going to see a play or something that has a specific date and time attached. I usually forget about it for months after the event has passed; it said “Last of the Red Hot Lovers has happened” until about a month ago.

Now, most of the time, the countdown is just as vague as the clock. And I guess because I don’t pay too much attention to it, I had never actually seen what it says when it gets close to the end of a countdown. Until a few days ago, when it switched from the comfortingly vague “About a week until…” to counting down the number of hours until the event in question.

That is not vague. That is very specific. And has been, since it was somewhere around 90 hours left.

I think I get less nervous when I ignore the darn thing. :
